Sarah Lorenz, a native Washingtonian, is a Pony Club graduate A, USEA Level II certified instructor, and has ridden through the Advanced level in eventing (equivalent of 4th level dressage and 4′ jumper). In the earlier years of Sarah’s riding career, she was very active as an Area VII Young Rider. Sarah won the CCI* long format Fritz Cup in 1991 and team silver medal winner (12th of 52 individually) of the CCI** long format North American Young Rider Championships at Bromont, Quebec in 1992.
The following year in ’93, Sarah and her horse Stone’s Throw added a 2nd and 4th place finish at the Advanced level under USEA Level IV coach Dayna Lynd-Pugh. She credits much of her earliest years of competition success to local trainers such as Todd Trewin (US Olympic event rider), Jean Moyer (successful national eventing/dressage coach), Judy Thocher (accomplished dressage instructor/rider), and John Turner (nationally recognized hunter/jumper instructor).
Sarah later traveled to the east coast to train for a few years with USEA ICP faculty member and US Olympic event rider Phyllis Dawson, Major Jeremy Beale (British Team rider), and Susie Beale (Advanced level rider). After intensive training and competing, she returned to Washington to finish her bachelor’s degree in Arts/ Sciences from the University of Washington. Upon finishing school, Sarah then began her teaching / training business “Stone’s Throw Farm,” which has been going strong for close to 20 years. Also noteworthy, Sarah has regularly ridden in clinics with Janet Foy (FEI “I” judge and USEF Sporthorse “R” breeding judge) and Alfredo Hernandez (specialist in piaffe and passage work).
Stone’s Throw Farm is a lesson, training, sales, and breeding business that caters to the eventing and dressage community in the Pacific Northwest. Sarah will be training out of Make Your Mark Stables in Springfield, Oregon beginning October 15th. Lesson horses are available for adults and children.
Recently, Sarah has slowly been building a small Holsteiner breeding program aimed at producing both event and dressage horses. In 2013, Sarah competed one of her Holsteiner mares “Adricatica” in the FEI Young Horse Dressage 5-Year Old test scoring a respectable 7.3. In 2015, her Holsteiner yearling “Gucci STF” was one of the highest scoring yearlings in the Future Event Horse class nationally with a score of 85. In 2016, Sarah Piloted Adriatica’s full sister “Zuara” from no experience eventing to winning the Area VII Open Training Championships in a single season. She finished the weekend on the lowest final score among all the levels of Championships.
